ECONOMIC RECESSION OR NOT, workers in Barbados should continue to stand up for their rights once they are infringed.

And they have the full backing of the island’s largest labour movement, the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU).

Responding to comments made last Friday by chief executive officer of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL), Richard Cozier, following a strike which saw 500 BHL employees walk off the job, BWU general secretary Toni Moore has firmly defended the actions of the unionised workers.

Following the surprise strike which affected 80 per cent of his company’s staff, Cozier had told the media he was surprised that at a time when Barbadians were on the hunt for jobs, BHL employees would risk their jobs by partaking in the strike action.
