From The Archives: Charges against Hall and company

WHEN WINSTON HALL escaped custody over four years ago, seven specific charges including murder were preferred against him and he was jointly charged with other offences.

He pleaded guilty to having a shotgun in his possession and was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Charles Harris in the District “A” Criminal Court “A” on January 29, 1985.

He was also facing charges of theft of jewellery and articles from Bloomsbury Plantation, St. Thomas; theft of jewellery and articles from Applewhaite’s; stealing cartridges, jewellery and cash from Locust Hall, St. George and unlawful possession of. 25 gun.

Following are the joint charges against Winston Hall, David Oliver and Peter Bradshaw:

* Between December14 and 15, 1984, murdered Cyril Sisnett of Francia Plantation, St. George;

* On November 22, 1984, robbed George Challenor of Locust Hall, St. George, of four shotguns, two wrist watches, a wallet, $300 cash, a tape deck, 150 12-gauge cartridges and a liquor cabinet;

* On November 16, 1984, robbed Brian Ridley of Applewhaite’s, St. Thomas, of one tie-tack, a knife and a sheath;

* On November 16, 1984, robbed Ronald King, of Locust Hall, St. George, of $1 340 cash and a watch;

* On November 16, 1984, robbed Michael Ridley of Applewhaite’s, St. Thomas, of one track suit, two watches, a pair of bangles, one chain, one brooch and a gold clasp.

* On April 29, 1984, robbed John Moss of Bloomsbury Thomas, of two watches, a pair of binoculars, a calculator pendant and a ring;

* On April 29, 1984, robbed Hazel Moss, of Bloomsury, St. Thomas of a chain.

The following are joint charges laid against two of the accused, Peter Bradshaw and Winston Hall:

 * On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun), assaulted Rose McDermid of Airy Hill, St. George with intent to rob;

 * On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun) assaulted Jim McDermid of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob;

* On January 3, 1985, armed with an offensive weapon (a gun) assaulted Susan Rayside of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob;

* On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun), assaulted Elizabeth Rayside of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob;

* On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun) assaulted Shain Rayside, of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob;

* On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun assaulted Ena Rayside of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob;

* On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun) assaulted Paul Rayside, of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob;

* On January 3, 1985, being armed with an offensive weapon (a gun), assaulted Maria Rayside of Airy Hill, St. George, with intent to rob.
