BIM YMCA did not show up for their scheduled men’s hockey knockout semifinal match against Maple at Trents yesterday leaving the Men’s Hockey Association to determine what to do next.
Maple were in position and umpires Winsmore Humphrey and Peter Norville blew on and off the match at the appointed time of 9 a.m. without a single YMCA player on the field.
YMCA reportedly objected to the scheduling of the match since it coincided with a softball knockout game in which some of their players were involved. An official of the association said he had been informed by the YMCA hockey club that in was writing a letter on the matter to the association.
The match had been originally scheduled for Police grounds at Weymouth on the previous Sunday but a water-logged outfield caused it to the postponed. The other semifinal between Empire and the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and a key Intermediate match between CSOS and Malta Heineken Deacons were also scheduled then.
All three were re-arranged for the Maple grounds at Trents for yesterday – two in the morning and the other in the afternoon but only the Intermediate match was played.
