A 23-YEAR-OLD TRINIDADIAN with a passion for HIV/AIDS work, Cherrelle Dacon, is the latest Commonwealth Caribbean Rhodes Scholarship recipient.

She was selected today by the Rhodes Scholarship Committee chaired by Barbados Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave after seven regional candidates were interviewed.

The Lower Santa Cruz resident and postgraduate student at the University of the West Indies campus in Trinidad said she would use the scholarship to further prepare for a career aimed at advancing the Caribbean’s work in the field of HIV/AIDS.

Two Barbadians, three Trinidadians, an Antiguan and a Guyanese had been short-listed for interviews for the prestigious scholarship tenable at Oxford University. (TY)
