The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has called on Government to rehire former National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers and others retrenched in its economic stabilization programme.

Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley made the appeal yesterday following the recent mass resignation of members of the Employment Rights Tribunal (ERT), which was to rule on charges of unfair dismissals triggered by the NCC job cuts.

“In the spirit of the season, I would ask the Government to reconsider, reinstate the NCC workers particularly and the others who are affected and let us do the right thing in the right way,” Mottley told reporters on the fringes of a reception she held for the media in the West Wing of the Parliament complex.

Thousands of workers in state agencies have been earmarked for retrenchment as Government institutes measures to cut its spending to trim a massive deficit. (TY)
