Brewster reign

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS expect much of athletes and they usually get their wish.

For sure, at St Giles Primary School house sports at the National Stadium yesterday, they got it and then more than they bargained for.

The action culminated with new champions, as Brewster (441) dethroned Cumberbatch, who finished third (321). They were split by Adams, second (409), and Parris fourth, (300).

Victrix ludorum Ianna Ellis, competing in the Under-13division, played the lead role with 46 points and they proved to be the major difference between the new champions and the pretenders.

Ellis balanced the scales in the field and on the track. She won the long jump and tennis ball throw and topped it up with victory in the 400 metres and second places in the 100 metres and 600 metres.

Second place went to J’nia Edwards of Cumberbatch with 35 points. Tianna Applewhaite of Brewster copped third overall in the girls with 30 points.

The top boy was Shawn Jack of Adams House with 31 points, just edging out teammate Kevin Webster on 30 points. Third place went to Romario Roach with 27 points.

Jack earned victories in the Under-11 Boys’ 200m in 31.31 secs and the long jump with a mark of 3.64m. He also placed second in the 100m and fourth in the tennis ball throw to show he was a jack of all trades and overall master of his opponents.

Another lad who showed versatility was Dean Greaves of Cumberbatch, notching victories in the 800m and the long jump in the Under-11s.

Webster sped to convincing triumphs in the Under-9 Boys’ 80 and 100 metres and can justly claim to have played his part in the coronation of Brewster House.

After a day of compelling and competitive action, it would have been unpardonable for anybody to ask more of these athletes, who gave their all.
