THE LACK OF MONEY is casting doubt on whether this year’s sugar crop will start this month.
Though the independent sugar cane growers were supposed to have money available since last week, it has not materialised. So they still cannot start preparation for this year’s harvest.
The Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) is affected by this cash crunch too, leaving its factory and mechanical preparations lagging somewhat.
Word of this comes a week after Prime Minister Freundel Stuart told business leaders the cash was coming.
