OMAR WARD can be found almost daily on the Ronald Mapp Highway chipping away at his work.

He is a sculptor and when things slowed down a bit late last year Omar decided to take his trade on the road.

The 32-year-old Fire Hill, Rock Hall, St Thomas resident spends his days carving anything from animals to murals out of coral stone near the St Thomas Parish Church.

His most elaborate piece is an 8ft x 8ft bird mural which took him two weeks to complete.

Omar said that he has a concept long before he begins his carvings and does nothing unless he prays to God.

“I was doing sculptures from 16 years and my son, he also would do a thing on his own. He would make Batman crests.

“I don’t like to do the same thing twice because it gets boring. I like to explore,” he added.

His present sculpture is that of the indigenous green monkey. (AC)
