BARBADOS’ UNDER-16 GEMS survived a scare as they were outscored in two quarters before rallying for a tense 23-19 victory over a spirited Dominica side in their opening match of the Caribbean Netball Association Jean Pierre Youth Tournament at the Vigie Sports Complex in St Lucia on Saturday night.

In other matches, host country St Lucia eased to a 30-15 win over Bermuda while Grenada dealt the first blow of the tournament, upsetting Trinidad and Tobago 23-17.

Last year’s runners-up Barbados dominated the earlier part of their encounter with Dominica leading 10-3 at the end of the first quarter.

But the Bajan lasses failed to score a single goal in the second quarter when their opponents netted four to trim the deficit. (EZS/CMC)
