Water scramble

A MAD SCRAMBLE to catch and store water was taking place yesterday as residents of a large swath of the east of the island prepared for a 12-hour shut-off today.

The water outage, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., will affect parts of St Philip, St John and St Joseph and, according to a Barbados Water Authority (BWA) release, was a result of mains replacement in its capital works programme from Benn Spring in St John to Mount Pleasant, St Philip.

But residents in some areas appeared to be caught by surprise when they were told about the pending shut-off by the SUNDAY SUN yesterday.

“It going off when?” asked Keith Lewis who was at a shop in Bath, St John – one of the areas to be affected. “Well, I got to catch some water when I go home.”
