BRA ‘not right fit’ for Customs

STAFF AT THE Customs and Excise Department was never intended to be part of the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) and the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) wants it to remain that way.

Opposition Leader Mia Mottley reminded the House of Assembly yesterday that the BRA, which was to be called the Central Revenue Authority, was really the brainchild of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur.

She queried why Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler did not reveal that Arthur had a policy paper which stated that customs was not intended to be part of the Central Revenue Authority, adding that was still the BLP’s position.
