BDF on mercy mission

THE MISSION could be a long and arduous one.

The Barbados Defence Force (BDF) will be a busy organisation over the next two weeks as it pulls out all the stops to help neighbouring island Dominica recover from a gut-wrenching tragedy that has left more than 20 dead, and people forced to rebuild almost an entire country from scratch.

The Coast Guard vessel, the HMBS Trident, landed in the capital Roseau yesterday morning with its first cargo of bottled water and life-saving supplies for children and adults, and between now and Friday, its sister ships, HMBS Leonard C. Banfield and HMBS Rudyard Lewis, will alternate in sailing through the Eastern Caribbean island chain with more supplies, starting from today.
