THE FOUNDER of a youth-centred charity believes that a lack of employment opportunities has contributed to crime.

Nigel Jules, of the Purpose 180 Foundation, said his organisation could help to turn around the situation, adding he understood how simple it might be for young men to fall into a life of crime.

“We want to tell a young boy to go to school, get an education and get a job, but when he comes out [he] can’t find a job? Then the guy on the block comes and says, ‘Sell some weed for me, you gonna make $500 a week’.

“Where you feel they are gonna go? They are gonna go to the block man. So, we need to create opportunities for our young people whereby they can get something substantial,” he said. (TSG)
