RIVALDO LEACOCK ran a sizzling race to win the Boys’ 400-metre hurdles at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia, Samoa, on Tuesday night.

Leacock ran a personal best 51.12 seconds to beat out Jamaica’s Jauavney James in 51.54 seconds. Finishing third was Harrison Kimpton-Moss of Australia in 52.33 seconds.

The victory capped what has been a stellar year for the 16-year-old former Lester Vaughan student. Leacock won gold in the 400-metre hurdles at the CARIFTA Games and finished second in the men’s race at this year’s National Championships. He also set a national junior record of 51.13 seconds at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia.

When contacted Tuesday night, Leacock told the Daily Nation he was pleased with the way he executed his last major race for this year’s athletics season.
