ONE OF THIS island’s delicacies will be back on Bajan tables  in a matter of days.

From next Thursday Barbadians will be allowed to harvest sea eggs for a month.

The temporary lifting of the ban from October 1 to 30 is as a result of encouraging recovery of the tasty sea urchin banned for more than five years.

A Barbados Government Information Service release yesterday stated that anyone wishing to harvest sea eggs for the month-long period must be registered and licensed by the Chief Fisheries Officer of the Ministry of Fisheries. It will be immediately followed by a closed season on November 1.

A fisheries official told the DAILY NATION that the ban over the years had seen an interesting recovery of sea eggs, but warned that the depleted conditions could return because of over-harvesting.
