THE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS facing Barbados should be no excuse for people to engage in lawless behaviour.
And any threat to law and order should be dealt with firmly.
This was the position of former prime minister Owen Arthur during his address at the Small Business Association Awards Ceremony at the Radisson Aquatica Resort on Saturday night.
Making reference to the “recent spurt of crime and violent behaviour” in the nation, Arthur said: “Although the economic times have been tough, they do not serve as a justification for the kind of criminal behaviour that is taking place in our nation.”
The former Barbados Labour Party leader added: “Ours is still a society that allows aspiration to be matched to opportunity.” (JS)
