New draughts twist

THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE, Sports and Youth is using the game of draughts to bring HIV/AIDS and emergency management education to blocks across the island.

Yesterday at the ministry’s headquarters in Haggatt Hall, St Michael, permanent secretary Ruth Blackman launched this year’s Division of Youth’s HIV & AIDS Block Draughts Tournament.

She explained that the tournament, now in its fourth year will run from October 12 to February 29 and serve to promote the game of draughts.

Blackman said it would also come with further important information and skills. “We use the time of having the blocks together to sensitise all participating persons about HIV/AIDS,” Blackman said.
