Brooks’ century guides Barbados Pride to 247-4 at close of first day’s play

BRIDGETOWN – Shamarh Brooks (102 not out) stroked his third first-class century as he guided Barbados Pride to 247 for four off 90 overs in their first innings against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at stumps on the opening day of their second round Professional Cricket League regional first-class match at Kensington Oval here Friday.

The 27-year-old right-hander brought up his century in the day’s final over off 189 balls in 262 minutes with his 10th four, an extra cover drive off Red Force’s captain Rayad Emrit.

Brooks shared a fourth wicket stand of 123 in 170 minutes with fellow middle order batsman Roston Chase who made 59 while opener Kyle Corbin contributed 46 after the cheap dismissals of captain Kraigg Brathwaite (5) and Shai Hope (18).

Leg-spinner Imran Khan was the most successful bowler for the visiting Red Force team, taking two for 62 off 21 overs while there was one wicket each for pacer Shannon Gabriel (1-36) and left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh (1-72). (EZS)
