It’s Springer again

SPRINGER MEMORIAL are champions again, holding their nerve after the final of the Barbados Secondary Schools Netball League was halted for 15 minutes as an umpire sought to have a number of people removed from the Netball Stadium yesterday.

Springer prevailed 25-21 over Christ Church Foundation, but the match was stopped in the fourth quarter when the umpire said some fans who congregated outside of the court were uttering remarks which questioned her ability to make efficient judgements.

After the confrontation persisted a policeman had to be summoned from the shooting range next door to resolve the matter.

However, that setback didn’t hinder the tears of joy and screams of excitement that illuminated the faces of the Springer Memorial players when the final whistle was blown.

Springer, champions for 11 successive years, had regained the title that Graydon Sealy won for the previous four years. (RG)
