CHIEF SECRETARY Orville London is advising Tobagonians that they must understand that the nation’s economic situation is changing and be prepared to make the requisite sacrifices.
Two weeks ago, the Central Bank announced that Trinidad and Tobago is officially in a recession, after showing four quarters of negative economic growth.
The chief secretary said Tobago must adjust to the present conditions.
“I am urging us as Tobagonians to accept the fact that things have changed, circumstances have changed and therefore behavior has to change,” London said.
“…We have to be more collaborative and realistic,” he added
Finance Minister Colm Imbert recently revealed that government does not have the money to pay public servants’ arrears before year’s end. The chief secretary is urging patience and prudence.
“We cannot demand resources that are simply not available,” he said.
“There is a difference between a situation where decision makers have resources are either apportioned in a perverse manner or not apportioned at all. When there are no resources to apportion, then the mindset of those who are due to receive has to change,” London noted. (PR)
