PIG FARMER Bentley Jordan, of Lower Parks, St Joseph, wants some water for the almost 50 pigs on his farm.
Jordan vented his frustration yesterday after having no water for three days, and ongoing water outages for months.
The farmer, with over 40 years’ experience, said he had two pregnant sows that would be soon ready to deliver and he needed water badly or he could face a similar situation to what he experienced recently when he had to get rid of a sow after it had about 12 piglets. He said nursing sows had to be supplied with water in the morning, at midday and evening, but that had been challenging for him.
Jordan said the water supply in the area generally came on around 2 a.m. and went back off by 7:30 a.m., leaving him with no choice but to load tanks – including one holding over 100 gallons – on the back of his van and go out in search for water. He said the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) had put a four-foot, 200-gallon potable water tank in the same district but it was of no help to him, because based on the amount of water he needed and the size of his tank, if he started to fill it up from there, there would be none left for anyone else.
