A SENIOR ATTORNEY AT LAW has blasted the remanding a man to prison for having a “five-bag” of marijuana.

Noting that the man had no previous convictions and never ran afoul of the law before, Queen’s Counsel Andrew Pilgrim said such actions could send the wrong message to the society.

“You mean, you going to remand a man to prison for a five-bag. If there’s a zero tolerance in this country for marijuana, let us know,” an upset Pilgrim told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday.

He was referring to a matter where 51-year-old Maurice Sandiford, of Apt A, Mango Court, Porters, St James, appeared before Magistrate Wayne Clarke in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court last weekend and was remanded to HMP Dodds to reappear at the Holetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
