HOW’S THAT FOR PAYBACK?

This time Lumber Company Lakers got the benefit of the whistle, as Nicky King couldn’t draw a call on his game-tying layup, capping Hilton Barbados Warriors’ last-second 71-69 defeat on Thursday in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League at the Wildey Gym.

It was all too reminiscent of Lakers’ near identical two-point knockout loss to the same opponents a month ago, where Sydney Rowe also got whacked on a potential game-tying basket. The transgression wasn’t as blatant this time, though.

Starting the final play down two with 6.4 seconds remaining, King beat his initial defender off the dribble and got contact on his way to the hoop, but still managed to get off a lay-up attempt that appeared to be altered by forward Kregg Jones at the buzzer.
