On the surface he appears cool as a cucumber but deep inside the new Dean of the Cathedral of St Michael and All Angels is churning with thoughts about his latest mission.

Following his installation as head of the mother church of Barbados’ Anglican community a week ago, Dr Jeffrey Gibson has thrown himself into the business at hand.

“The focus I think will be broadened in the sense that as dean I am not only the leader of the congregation of St Michael, but I am also sharing in the wider councils of the diocese in collaboration with the bishop, the archdeacon and the canons and providing a public ministry to the city of Bridgetown and to the nation,” Gibson explained during an interview Tuesday.

“I think the Cathedral would like to be seen and known as the real mother church of the diocese in Barbados where every Anglican and all people will feel they are welcome; a place where they can celebrate their activities and a place they can come to if there is need for solace and comfort. In other words, I think the Cathedral is to be the place that embraces everyone.”
