THEY SAY misfortune often brings out the best in people, and that was the case this past weekend when a free fundraising concert was held to help a young woman back on her feet.

Maryann Grazette, whose plight was highlighted in the NATION in January, was living in squalor. The 28-year-old spoke of how many sleepless nights she endured because she feared the dilapidated St Michael house, which she shared with relatives, would fall on them.

On Sunday night Grazette, a former Teen Talent contestant, was overwhelmed by the support from those who turned out at Divi Southwinds Resort. Tears filled her eyes as she sang Mariah Carey’s Hero and thanked everyone for their kindness.

Held under the patronage of the Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett, The Help Concert was conceptualised by veteran entertainer Richard Stoute.
