CHARITY WORKER Yvette “Blondie” King is calling on Barbadians to help cancer victim Michelle Forde who recently announced that she was going on a natural journey to treat her breast cancer.
King, who made a donation to the 47-year-old mother of five last week, said she usually assisted children but was so moved by Forde’s situation that she presented her with a cash donation.
“Right now she needs the help to support her natural treatment because she cannot work,” King said.
“Everyone does not want to do chemotherapy and she believes that going natural is going to cure her. I think Barbadians should help her fulfil her dream.”
King also plans to help Forde with her nine-year-old special needs child.
“Michelle wants to continue to be there for this child. She is being courageous even though the cancer has her bedridden,” said King.
The charity worker said she knew Barbadians overall had less disposable income because she heard their cries daily when they passed by her outside Cave Shepherd on Broad Street, where she solicits donations.
“People are always crying to me telling me how tough it is. It’s not like before and contributions are drying up but I am still going out there every day. I walk with extra money on mornings because people ask me for bus fare, they ask me for a drink – I know it’s really hard on some people.”
King usually donates to children’s homes and recalled how years gone by she was able to give over 12 computers to homes across the island.
Last week King also made her quarterly draw of prize tickets to people who made donations.
Develma Hackett, Dennis Edwards and Demitri Joseph won lunch for two at Paradise Restaurant; and Lynette Jackson, Rohan Cumberbatch and Taurea Belgrave received tickets for a Tiami cruise.
