A LATE morning fire in Hopeland, St Philip, destroyed an unoccupied house, destroying all its contents.
Neighbours told the WEEKEND NATION the three-bedroom house had once been occupied by Charles Steele, a retired returning national who had checked into a private nursing home about three months ago.
As a result, there was no one home when the fire broke out. However, residents said Steele had all his belongings still inside, including a piano imported from England.
Two fire tenders responded to the fire, one from Probyn Street headquarters and the other from the Worthing Station. Station officer Clarence Hinds led the operation and was in command of seven fire officers. (CA)
