Pine hold off Warriors

WARRIORS sure will be kicking themselves after this one.

Orange 3 Pinelands are a win away from a third straight finals appearance, taking advantage of four missed free throws and another late gaffe to pull out Sunday’s 82-77 Game 1 victory over Hilton Barbados Warriors in the Co-operators General Insurance Premier League basketball play-offs.

It wasn’t the sexiest of wins ever witnessed at the Barbados Community College, but the Pine will take it all the same after going a dreadful one of 21 from deep while star guard Jeremy Gill committed six ghastly turnovers.

And Warriors should’ve duly capitalised, having pulled within four (76-72) with 1:37 left before making the contest a one-score game (76-75) inside the final minute.

But Jamar “Spanner” Headley came up short on a short jumper before that one-minute mark, and Ricardo “Aru” Toussaint blew an even easier layup just moments later. (JM)
