ANTOINETTE DOWNIE created history over the weekend when she became the first Barbadian woman to capture an International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) professional women’s physique event.

Downie beat more than a dozen of the world’s best women’s physique competitors at the Wings of Strength Puerto Rico Pro contest in San Juan on Sunday. That victory qualifies her to compete at the prestigious Olympia event slated for September at the Las Vegas Convention Centre.

“I am very happy with my achievement. I came seventh in New York and I knew I needed to come tighter for Puerto Rico, so I focused and did what I had to do.

“I thank God for the strength given to me over the past week and pray for continued guidance for my Toronto show this weekend,” said a delighted Downie on Sunday night.
