More women seeking mortgages

MORE SINGLE WOMEN are pooling together their finances just so they have a chance at owning a piece of the rock.

President and chief executive officer (CEO) at Capita Financial Services Inc., Paul Maxwell, said his company had seen an increase in Barbadians applying for mortgages.

Though he did not provide statistics to back up this claim, he said that 60 per cent of mortgage applicants had been from women, while men appeared to be taking a back seat.

Maxwell said: “If there are ten applications for mortgages, at least four to six are women. Whether it be single women or women who are together like a mother and a daughter. And then the other two or three would be married couples and then one male.” (TSG)
