LEROY DAISLEY and his neighbours at President Kennedy Drive, St Michael started an evacuation in the wee hours of yesterday after gallons of water flooded part of the district.

Terrified that their homes would be flooded, residents temporarilyy abandoned them and kept watch from the outside as the water from a burst main rose within inches of their doors.

However, while the rapidly spilling water slowly drained off it did not reach inside the homes and hours later relief came when the Barbados Water Authority arrived to shut off the main before repairing it.

Leroy Daisley whose home is located next to the Holborn Gas Station sounded the alarm around 2:30 a.m. after hearing what he thought was a truck. He was looking outside when he heard a sound which he feared was an explosion, Daisley said.  (AC)
