JADA CONSTRUCTION Ltd has denied that it will be importing cheap labour to work on the multimillion-dollar Sandals Barbados project.
Two weeks ago JADA, one of the largest construction companies in Barbados, published a notice of its intention to apply to the Chief Immigration Officer for work permits for a quantity of skilled A-Class carpenters and masons from CARICOM to work on the project.
Some of the company’s employees contacted the SUNDAY SUN to say they believed that JADA was trying to import cheap labour and pay them less than Barbadians. An official of the Barbados Workers’ Union, which was recently embroiled in a dispute with the company over the dismissal of some workers at its subsidiary Infra, said that the union was looking into the matter of the importation of workers.
