THE COUNTRY’S biggest public sector union is giving its full support to teachers in their dispute with the Ministry of Education over the docking of their pay.

While the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) has not indicated that it was prepared to join the Barbados Union of Teachers’ (BUT) executive in its demonstration, NUPW general secretary Roslyn Smith said yesterday her union was backing the teachers.

Members of the BUT executive held a three-hour protest on Monday and Tuesday near the Ministry of Education’s headquarters on Constitution Road, St Michael, intended to highlight the union’s displeasure at the ministry’s actions.

In a statement yesterday to the media, Smith said the NUPW called on the ministry to meet with the BUT top brass to address the issue. (GE/PR)
