Wrong use of tanks

BARBADIANS HAVE BEEN told to stop using valuable potable water in community tanks to wash cars, water plants and other “illegitimate” activities.

The plea has come from Barbados Water Authority (BWA) communications specialist Joy Ann Haigh, after scores of residents from rural communities descended on the BWA’s Pine, St Michael headquarters yesterday to protest months of little or no water in their homes.

Haigh told the media the state agency could not police the tanks and therefore relied on people to be considerate of those in the affected areas where the only source of drinking water was the tanks.

“The community tanks are being filled but we are asking Barbadians to have a little bit more of a conscience when using the tanks. We are seeing vehicles pulling up to wash vehicles, to wash clothes. We saw people pulling up attaching hoses, and residents called us to ask why,” she related. (MR)
