BE PREPARED for more challenges.
A Government senator issued the warning yesterday in light of proposed major cuts in foreign aid and other areas by the Donald Trump-led United States government.
Reginald Hunte (right) informed the Senate, as debate on the Appropriation Bill 2017 resumed yesterday, that the spending cuts by the US would have an impact on countries like Barbados, which already had economic problems.
However, he was confident Barbados would eventually triumph, though he steered clear of predicting when this could happen.
“Small island developing economies like us have to prepare for more challenges. This is one Barbados we’re living in and it’s not time to be pulling down persons because you don’t like them, you don’t like how they look or because you want to get where they are,” said Hunte, whose contribution focused on patriotism versus nationalism.
He contended that those who did not wish the Government well could not wish the people well, because both were intertwined.
“There are people who would carry out all kinds of sabotaging acts because they feel they’re hurting the Prime Minister and ministers of the Cabinet. No! You are doing injury to your country and that is why you cannot separate the people from the Government,” he argued, adding there was nothing wrong with constructive criticism. (WILLCOMM)
