Owners of public service vehicles (PSVs) are still hoping to see their fares increased to $3.
But that number, according to president of the Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT), Roy Raphael, still might not be enough to effectively cover their growing costs.
Speaking to DAILY NATION yesterday, Raphael highlighted a number of issues, which he said were impacting on owners’ bottom lines. These include bad roads that were sending them speeding to mechanics, and high fuel costs.
“When we did our analysis, it really showed that bus fare should really be increased [to $5]. Unlike the Transport Board that gets subsidised, we don’t get any subsidy from Government. But we are prepared to give some consideration if the need arises,” he said. (TG)
