It will be a new-look St Mary’s Church that will greet parishioners or funeral-goers from tomorrow.

It will probably be a warmer church as well.

As a result of an act of vandalism, retired senior superintendent of police and church warden Jeddar Robinson has revealed that 19 of the church’s 34 Georgian windows will have to be shuttered over to keep out the elements. The 190-year-old church, with 300-plus old graves, is a major tourist attraction in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bridgetown.

The 19 windows were smashed sometime between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. yesterday. A young man is helping police with their investigations. (HLE)
