Still no decision on bishop

Priests and laity of the Anglican Church are currently engaged in heated discussion at the Christ Church Parish Centre.

The first ballot of this, the fifth meeting, of the Elective Synod failed to select a bishop.

The ballot was held around 8:30 tonight and saw Reverend John Rogers earning 31 votes from the clergy, and 54 from the laity. Dean Jeffrey Gibson received 44 votes from the clergy and 20 from the laity.

The discussion at the moment centres around the prospect of going to select committee, one of the four options open to the selection process, but it appears as though there will not be another ballot tonight. (GC)
