Gittens boxes her way to bronze

The women continue to bring home the hardware for Barbados at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Kimberley Gittens won the country’s fourth bronze medal, this time in the light welterweight (64kg) boxing category.

Gittens was guaranteed a bronze medal after advancing to the semi-finals, but lost the chance to fight for gold when she went down 3-2 to Mirquin Sena of the Dominican Republic.

All four medals have been won by women.

Gittens joins the victorious equestrian and squash teams which have since returned home.

Earlier tonight, Sonia Gaskin recorded a person al best 2 minutes 03.13 minutes to finish third in the 800 metres.

It was also a new national record, replacing the 2:03.59 done by Sheena Gooding back in 2005 at the CAC Championships. (SAT)
