Police will be deploying more resources in the areas surrounding Spring Garden in an attempt to head off any incidents which could happen there.

This was revealed by Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith in to a query about whether extra measures were being put in place for this weekend in light of last year’s shooting on Kadooment Day.

Twenty-year-old Tareid Rock was shot and killed along Spring Garden Highway. More than 20 people, including a six-year-old, were also injured.

Griffith said that incident did not originate at Crop Over.

“This was an incident that occurred in an adjoining district, where the deceased was actually fleeing from that district and he ended up on the Spring Garden Highway. It was never to do with the actual festivities, and that can happen anywhere,” he explained.

The Commissioner also denied the Royal Barbados Police Force had detained persons of interest for the long Crop Over weekend. (RA)
