West Indies’ pacer Shannon Gabriel is eager to have another crack at the English batting line-up despite being named as a reserve in the 14-man squad for the three-Test series set to start on July 8 at Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

The 32-year-old Trinidadian was banned for four one-day internationals last year after a verbal exchange between him and England skipper Joe Root during the final Test of the West Indies-England series, which the Windies won 2-1.

Gabriel had made a comment – which was not picked up by the stump microphones – after which Root was heard saying “there is nothing wrong with being gay”.

The speedster was eventually slapped with the ban and fined a large portion of his match fees. In a Zoom conference yesterday morning at Old Trafford, he expressed dissatisfaction with how the incident was handled. (AGB)
