Barbados is among a group of regional countries which have committed to increase cooperation with the international community.
This follows a recent meeting with United States Vice President Joseph Biden and other officials.
In addition to Barbados and the US, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Colombia, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Kingdom were represented at the meeting. It took place at the US State Department in Washington.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Caribbean Community Secretariat, Caribbean Development Bank, European Union, Inter-American Development Bank, International Renewable Energy Agency, Organisation of American States and the World Bank Group.
Among other things, they committed to “policy and regulatory environments that facilitate the introduction of new technologies favouring sustainable and clean energy that provide legal certainty for investors and improved predictability in price and supply for users.” (SC)
