No-frills force

POLICE VEHICLES MUST no longer be driven with air conditioners on and windows up – and while in uniform officers must wear their hats at all times.

These are among a number of directives recently issued by the force’s high command, which said it was trying to reinforce discipline as well as make it easier for members of the public to have access to law enforcers.

The other directives include each police officer carrying a baton and no longer being transported home in police vehicles before midnight.

However, a number of upset cops told the WEEKEND NATION these rules and regulations were putting unnecessary pressure on them, charging that some of the measures were regressive.
