Hinkson’s call

A GOVERNMENT MINISTER is appealing to all females in the family – mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters – to tell their relatives to put down the guns and turn them in.

Minister of Home Affairs Edmund Hinkson said they were the ones to take the lead in helping Government arrest the vexing crime and violent situation across Barbados.

Speaking in the wake of 20 murders so far for the year and other incidents of gun-related violence, he told the NATION: “We are calling on all those thugs who are, quite frankly, misguided and creating pure problems in Barbados, to lay down the guns and realise there are other ways to resolve conflict rather than by violence. And really and truly we call on the families, especially the females of the families – the mothers, the grandmothers, the aunts – to bring your relatives who are involved in criminal activities to Christian understanding.”

Hinkson, who was relieved of his responsibilities for the Police Force and the preservation of public order back in January by Prime Minister Mia Mottley, added: “Tell them turn in the guns; try and change their life. We are going to help reform them, and if they are not willing to do that, you have to inform the police because it is better that way than to see them dead in a pool of blood the next month and there is then no hope for them.
