The Barbados Family Planning Association (BFPA) is to help in reducing the backlog of surgeries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
In an effort to generate revenue after losing a $250 000 Government subvention, the BFPA has launched several initiatives which would also make it easier for low income earners who work from Monday to Friday to access specialized health care every Sunday during a five-hour window.
Executive director of the BFPA, George Griffith, said that from next week, it would host half-day clinics where men, women and teenaged girls could have a variety of health checks or general surgeries.
In addition, the BFPA added several services, inclusive of surgical procedures, which can be done at the Bay Street headquarters.
“We are now offering services to a wider range of general surgeons who can bring their day release cases to us. Not only does it allow us to improve our community outreach programme, it also helps ease the backlog which such surgeries create at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital,” Griffith explained.
