So much for getting inter-school sports back on track.
More than half of the country’s 22 public secondary schools, including defending champs Springer Memorial and Queen’s College as well as perennial powerhouses Harrison College, have opted against sending teams to contest the one-off Barbados National Secondary Schools’ Championships.
News of the widespread holdout broke yesterday when it was revealed that today’s preliminaries had to be delayed until tomorrow after just eight schools announced their availability for the meet.
No official word has been given for the schools’ refusal to participate but investigations by the DAILY NATION revealed that several principals have stated concerns to the Ministry of Education over the timing of the meet.
