Squad to tackle gold snatchers

Call it the snatch-and-grab squad.
The Royal Barbados Police Force has put together a special unit which has already started work on reducing the snatch-and-grab crime spree that is thought to be fuelling the cash-for-gold phenomenon.
But Commissioner of Police, Darwin Dottin is still asking Barbadians to leave their jewellery and valuables at home, until the country’s law enforcement brings the situation under control.
Figures produced today showed that Bajans have been robbed of jewellery valued almost $1million in the first two months of the year, and it could get worse if not brought under control.
Dottin denied the snatch-and-grab situation had become a crisis, saying instead it amounts to a “very serious problem at the moment” but was one that could have a devastating effect on society if allowed to spiral out of control. “We haven’t been caught napping on this.
