Businessman and former head of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eddy Abed is forecasting a hard Christmas for many retailers.
And Abed has pointed to Government’s ongoing retrenchment exercise as the cause of this season slowdown.
“It’s been a very difficult Christmas up until now and I don’t expect much change going into the end of the year,” Abed told the Saturday Sun earlier this week from Abed’s Swan Street, Bridgetown branch.
“I think we will see a last-minute rush. I think we will see some discounting in the marketplace because there are many retailers who are sitting on inventory that needs to move. But it’s a sign of the times,” he added.
Since Government began its retrenchment two months ago, over 1 000 civil servants have gone home. (AD)
