Bad contractors targeted

THE?Days of Tom, Dick and Harry claiming to be building contractors could soon be coming to an end.
The Barbados Contractors’ Association has submitted recommendations to Government which would require anyone involved in the building process to be registered and licensed.
It comes at a time when the construction industry is being viewed as a “money pit” and some people are simply getting up and calling themselves “contractors” even though they have little or no experience in building.
Steve Ifill, managing director of Steve’s Building Works, and one of the founders of the association, said the legislation would require contractors to have five or more years’ experience and/or relevant qualifications in their field of work. (MB)
