New track rules

GOVERNMENT is determined to protect its $2 million investment at the National Stadium.
Weeks before the official opening of the new track, strict rules and regulations governing its use have already been put in place by the National Sports Council (NSC).
Neil Murrell, deputy director of the NSC, detailed the tenets of an extensive 25-page document – which range from the regulation of some types of athletic equipment to the debarring of certain food items – in an interview with WEEKENDSPORT following the muchawaited completion of works.
“We really needed to put a new policy in place so we can maintain the existing new track [and] to have a longer duration of the surface, because as you can understand, we spent a lot of money on this surface,” explained Murrell.
